Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative, chronic disease which origin is an inflammation in one or more joints. It is a self-perpetuating process that leads to pain and lameness. The development of osteoarthritis may be related to trauma, a congenital defect in joint conformation, or aging. Unlike dogs, cats are solitary and independent animals and will show less pain than dogs. Conventional treatments for osteoarthritis consist of regular (often daily) administration of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The stem cells are injected locally in the joint. They interact with the different components of the joint by secreting a wide range of soluble factors and through direct contact with the cells of the joint tissues they contribute to a to a global anti-inflammatory effect, to a
modulation of the immune cells of the joint (key in the arthrosic process) and have a provascular and protective effect against cell death. A, 8, G.
Several publications in dogs have shown that the injection of mesenchymal stem cells leads to a lasting pain reduction, a motor skills improvement and thus a lasting improvement in the animals quality of life. We expect the same effect on cats. 1, 2, 3, 4, C
